Unauthorized Army Hairstyles

There is a petition to change the new Army appearance regulations, saying they are discriminatory to black women. This weeks "shaking my head" moment goes to the ridiculous code of conduct passed by the US Army on Monday 31st of March that strictly prohibits certain 'black people hairstyles' that are worn by the soldiers.

Crazy right? Well listen to this.. Apparently hairstyles like Twisted Braids, Dreadlocks or even NATURAL HAIR (commonly worn by the women) get in the way and also interferes with headgear.

In response to the Army Regulation 670-1 (AR 670-1) passed on Monday, Sergeant Jasmine Jacobs is conducting a White House petition that has already seen it getting over 6,000 signatures.

“Most black women, their hair doesn’t grow straight down, it grows out,” says Sergeant Jacobs. “I’m disappointed to see the Army, rather than informing themselves on how black people wear their hair, they’ve white-washed it all.”
Which is very true, you'll see in images below that the one of the few hairstyles allowed is worn by a white soldier where her hair is tied in a low-bun. This will obviously be hard for some of the black soldiers to wear because of the restrictions having natural hair comes with.

She goes on to say that her hair has "never interfered with her headgear" and that she "either get a wig" or face a Non-Judicial Punishment, "all because of the way [her] hair grows naturally."

Not only is this racially-biased but  all too crazy and very unnecessary. If it means I can't embrace my ethnicity because of a job, then I'd really consider leaving it.
